Dr. Lee is a neurologist specializing in sleep medicine. He has a specific interest in the process and treatment of sleep disorders including narcolepsy, hypersomnias, circadian rhythm disorders, insomnias, movement disorders in sleep, obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep disordered breathing. He also has an interest in the relationship between sleep disorders and stroke.
In addition to practicing sleep medicine, he maintains an active general neurology clinic encountering the wide spectrum of general neurologic disorders. He also is actively invested in the clinical development and progression of the neurology residents at UCMC.
Dr. Lee is a graduate of the residency program (2013) and has a vision in resident education fostering an environment that is welcoming and striking the balance between supervision and graduated autonomy. This includes all aspects of neurology including patient care, research, outreach and innovation. He takes pride that the U. Chicago residency promotes leadership and confidence, throughout the years and also exposes residents to the wide berth of neurology.
Dr. Lee has been the Residency Program Director since 2020.
Daniel Kurz MD
Assistant Professor of Neurology

Dr. Kurz is a neurologist specializing in the treatment of neuroimmunological illnesses including but not limited to Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Neuromyelitis Optica (NMOSD), Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoproetin Antinody Disease (MOGAD), Autoimmune Encephalitis, and Neurosarcoidosis. He trained at New York University School of Medicine, NewYork Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center, and Mount Sinai Hospital. He was recruited to UChicago in 2021 after directing a comprehensive MS center in Brooklyn as well as establishing a neuroimmunology clinic at the flagship public hospital in Kings County. His research interests include cognitive impairment in early Multiple Sclerosis as well as clinical descriptors and treatment paradigms for Neurosarcoidosis. Dr. Kurz also has an interest in clinical trials for MS, LGBTQ+ health, and resident wellness.
Dr. Kurz joined as an Associate Residency Program Director in 2022.
Marla Scofield
Medical Education Manager, C-TAGME
Marla Scofield is an accomplished education administrator with over two decades of experience managing medical residency and fellowship programs at the University of Chicago Medicine. She has led multiple successful accreditation reviews, manages a team of coordinators, a significant education budget, and supervises recruitment and onboarding for numerous trainees and visiting medical personnel. She holds a bachelor’s from Purdue University, is TAGME-certified, and was named UofC GME Coordinator of the Year in 2024. In her spare time, Marla enjoys swimming, reading, baking and video games.
